Our approach
Consistency of people, a routine worth keeping and a plan the young person recognises as theirs.
Trauma informed practice
Behaviour is treated as communication and as a response to what has happened to a young person, not as a discipline problem. That changes what staff do in the moment and what they do afterwards.
Child led planning
The plan is built around what the young person wants their week to look like, within what is safe and what is funded. Where we cannot do something they have asked for, we tell them why.
Consistency of staff
Small teams, the same faces, and as few new people as the rota allows. For a child who has already had a lot of adults come and go, this matters more than almost anything else we do.
Education and routine
School, college or training is treated as non negotiable, and the routine around it is built to make attendance realistic rather than aspirational.
Voice of the child
Views are gathered in whatever way the young person actually communicates, not just in review meetings.
That means keywork sessions with something to do rather than a form to fill in, pictures and symbols where words are hard, and staff who notice what a young person does as well as what they say. What we hear goes into the plan, and the young person can see it there.
Every young person knows how to raise a concern, including about us, and gets help to do it if they want help.
