Complex Needs Support for Children and Young Adults
Giant Healthcare Corby provides complex needs support across Northamptonshire for children and young adults whose days need careful planning and consistent, well trained staff. We provide personal care, communication support, behavioural support and daily living support, working alongside the health professionals responsible for clinical care.

- CQC registered for personal care
- One to one and two to one staffing
- Support workers matched and trained around the individual
- We work alongside your health team
- Referrals answered the same working day
What we provide, and what we do not
This matters more than anything else on this page, so it comes first.
Support of this kind is often called complex care, which usually means something clinical. Ours is not. If the young person needs clinical input, tell us at referral and we will be clear about what we can and cannot cover before anything is agreed.
Referrers and parents search for complex care because it is the phrase the sector uses, so it is worth saying plainly which half of it we do. We do the personal care, the behavioural support and the daily living support. The health professionals already involved keep the rest.
- We provide
- Personal care, mobility and transfer support, communication support, behavioural support, help with eating and drinking, routine and sensory planning, community access and daily living support.
- We do not provide
- Nursing or clinical care of any kind. Clinical tasks remain with the health professionals responsible for them, and we work alongside those teams rather than in place of them.
Who it is for
Children and young adults with profound and multiple learning disabilities, significant physical disabilities, sensory impairments, autism with high support needs, and combinations of these.
People whose day only works when the order is right, the environment is right and the people are familiar. People who need two staff for parts of the day. People whose previous support has broken down because it was not planned properly.
We support both children and young adults. Where accommodation is involved, supported accommodation is for adults aged 18 and over.
Staffing
Small teams, kept together. A rotating cast of agency staff is the most common reason complex support fails, and we do not run that way.
Staff are matched to the individual and trained around their specific needs before starting, not afterwards.
- One to one
- Where a person needs a member of staff with them throughout.
- Two to one
- Where transfers, safety or the person's needs require two, and where a single worker would compromise dignity as much as safety.
Planning a day that works
Support at this level lives or dies on planning.
We map the day properly. What happens, in what order, with what warning, with what equipment, at what pace. We record what a good day looks like and what the early signs of a bad one are, so staff act on the first signal rather than the fourth.
Sensory environment is planned rather than tolerated. Noise, light, texture, temperature and crowding cause more difficult days than most plans admit.
Where a routine works, we protect it. Where it stops working, we change it with the person and family rather than around them.
Communication
Many of the people we support do not use speech.
We work with whatever they already use, whether that is symbols, a communication book, an app, gesture, eye pointing, or the specific sounds and movements a family has learned to read over years. Where somebody communicates through behaviour, we treat that as communication and work out what it means.
We follow plans written by speech and language therapists rather than writing them, and we feed back what we notice between appointments.
Working with health, education and social care
Community nursing teams, paediatricians, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, schools, colleges and social workers.
Support workers are present for far more hours than any clinician, so we notice changes first. We report what we see promptly and in writing, and we follow clinical plans exactly as written.
Risk, safety and dignity
Every person has a risk assessment covering mobility, transfers, eating and drinking, environment and behaviour, written with the family and reviewed regularly.
Restrictive practice is a last resort, recorded, reviewed and actively reduced.
Dignity is not a value statement here, it is a set of decisions: doors closed, the person told before anything happens, preferences recorded and followed, and enough staff that nothing is rushed.
Where support happens
The approach is the same. The setting changes.

- At home with family
- Through outreach and home support.
- In supported accommodation
- For adults aged 18 and over.
- In residential care
- For children and young people who cannot live at home.
