Accessibility statement
This website is used by disabled people, by families of disabled children, and in places by the young people we support. It is built to be usable, and this page says honestly what has been checked and what has not.
How accessible this website is
We aim to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. We believe the site currently meets that standard, with the specific caveats listed further down.
- Body text is set at 18px, larger than the common 16px default
- Every text and background pairing has been measured. All pass AA and most pass AAA
- Colour is never the only way meaning is conveyed
- Every page has one main heading and no skipped heading levels
- Every page has a skip link to the main content
- Keyboard focus is always visible, and every control can be reached and operated by keyboard
- Tap targets are at least 44px, and most are 56px
- Animation is subtle, never loops, and is disabled entirely when your device asks for reduced motion
- Form fields have real labels, and errors are announced rather than shown by colour alone
- The site works without JavaScript, with all content readable
How this was tested
Automated structural checks were run against every page, covering heading order, image alternative text, link text, page language, form labelling and colour contrast. Contrast ratios were calculated rather than eyeballed.
This is a genuine but partial test. It has not yet been through a full manual audit with assistive technology, or testing with disabled users. Both are worth doing before this statement claims full conformance.
Known limitations
We would rather list these than let you discover them.
- Photography has not yet been added. When it is, every image will need alternative text written by a person rather than generated
- An easy read version of the supported accommodation and learning disability pages has not been produced yet, and is planned
- Downloadable documents such as our Statement of Purpose have not yet been checked for accessibility
