Cookies

This website does not use cookies at all. That is unusual enough to be worth explaining properly.

What we do not do

At the time of writing this site sets no cookies of any kind, first party or third party.

Because nothing is stored on your device, there is no cookie banner on this site and nothing for you to consent to or reject.

  • No analytics. We do not use Google Analytics or any equivalent
  • No advertising or remarketing tags
  • No social media pixels or embedded feeds
  • No third party fonts. Our fonts are served from this website rather than from Google
  • No embedded video or maps that would set cookies on arrival
  • One embed only: the CQC rating widget on two pages, explained below
  • Nothing is written to local storage or session storage

The one exception: the CQC rating widget

Two pages, our safeguarding and quality page and our local authorities page, show the Care Quality Commission's own rating widget. It loads from cqc.org.uk, the regulator's website, inside an isolated frame.

That frame is the only third party content on this site. Anything it stores belongs to cqc.org.uk rather than to us, and is governed by the CQC's own cookie policy. The frame is sandboxed, so it cannot read anything about you from our pages.

The one thing we do store, and why it is not a cookie

When you submit a form we record a one way hash of your IP address, combined with a secret value, so that we can rate limit submissions and prevent abuse. That is stored on our server, not on your device, and it cannot be reversed to recover your IP address.

If this changes

If we later add an embedded map, a video, or any analytics, those would set cookies. If that happens we will add a consent banner that loads nothing until you choose, this page will be updated to list exactly what is set and why, and anything non essential will be off by default.

An embedded map is the most likely addition, because people use a contact page to find a building. If we add one it will sit behind a "show map" action with the address always available as plain text, so the useful part never depends on your consent.

Managing cookies generally

Your browser lets you see and delete cookies set by any website, usually under settings, privacy. Since this site sets none, there will be nothing from us to find.
